The Stepfather (PG-13,
Thriller) C+
When Michael, a High School senior returns home
for the summer he discovers that his mom has divorces his Dad and that she
has become engaged to a man she recently met. At the beginning of the film
it is clearly established that this man likes to get engaged to widowed
or divorced women and then decides to kill them. After a certain event occurs
in the film Michael begins to suspect that there is something suspicious
about his new stepfather. This movie would have been much better if it gave
a better indication of what made the stepfather decide to kill families
and what was going on in his mind. The movie seems to briefly touch on the
idea that his conscience is bothering him but it never develops it to an
interesting point.
