A Separation (PG-13, Drama) A-

This Iranian film starts out with a couple arguing in front of a judge why they should be granted a divorce.  When Nader and Simin can’t come to an agreement the judge refuses to grant them a divorce.  As a result Simin moves away, leaving her husband to care for his daughter and father who suffers from Alzheimer’s.  Nader hires a woman to help care for his father but the cultural and religious constraints that exist in Iranian society make matters more difficult and set the stage for a conflict between two families.  The tension between the characters from the ensuing conflict totally draws you into this amazing film.
