The Rite (PG-13, Horror) B+

Michael Kovak just finished school to become a priest but then decides he doesn’t want to be a priest. He is then convinced to reluctantly attend a seminar at the Vatican on how to perform exorcisms. He is very reluctant to believe people can be possessed by the devil so he is sent to Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins) who only does exorcisms. This film is based on true events and actual people. The film isn’t scary since most of the focus is on Father Kovak questioning his faith and beliefs. When odd thing happen to him de doesn’t seem to be scared but just bewildered. There aren’t any too horrific scenes; which doesn’t seem right for a movie about exorcisms, but the film addresses this point.
