Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
(PG-13, Action, Sci-Fi) B+
Harry Potter and his friends return to school where
tensions are high due to the return of Voldermot. Dumbledore gives Harry
a glimpse of Tom Riddle’s past and recruits Harry to extract one very
important memory from an old Professor. There’s never a boring moment
in the movie. Unlike the book, the movie did not do a good job at relating
the urgency of the tasks Harry has to accomplish. The characters also seemed
to lack a level of corresponding emotion to everything that is happening
to them. I didn’t expect them to cry but they almost act like robots
at times. It felt like they were rushing through all the parts of the book
they wanted to include in the film. The film was shot with very little color;
it had a black and white effect. The Director may have done this to convey
the evil surrounding the school. The IMAX 3D version wasn’t worth
the 2 week additional wait.
