The Darkest Hour (PG-13, Sci-Fi, Action) C-
A pair of recent college graduates fly to Moscow to sell a special program that help people discover the best clubs. Shortly after their arrival the whole city looses power and invisible aliens start killing everybody. They then attempt to survive the attack and find a way to escape back to the United States. I don’t usually like stories about alien invasion that take place from the point of view of a group of average people. This film didn’t help me change my mind on this; the characters weren’t very likable or remarkable. At the same time one of them seems to have psychic powers because he comes up with a theory on how to fight the aliens. In fairness to the screenwriters another character calls him on this; but pointing out a flaw doesn’t negate it. The film was helped by the fact that it takes place in Moscow, when you are more interested in the sights than the story or the characters the movie isn’t doing a good job of reeling you in.
